Writing

I have spent the last two years writing my first trade book, to be published in spring 2026. I'll reveal more when I'm allowed to! The book came about because as I came to the end of my PhD, I realised how much I enjoyed communicating archaeology in a way that tells the story without requiring the reader to have a degree in the subject.

I have previously written the World in Antiquity columns for British Archaeology magazine, turning academic articles into digestible summaries for a more general audience. I also produced a feature article reporting on the results of community archaeology excavations at the medieval palace of Clarendon, Wiltshire. I have written for Question Journal on the afterlives on landscape parks, and on the history of the wolf for History Today.

My PhD thesis, Beyond the Pale: The historical archaeology of hare hunting, is available open access from ethos. With experience in writing for and talking to a range of audiences, I am happy to adapt my writing and presenting style for more or less formal settings.
